a more valid cue to immunocompetence in human mate choice'. Correction to 'Adiposity, compared to masculinity, serves as a more valid cue to immunocompetence in human mate choice' There were two minuses missing in the Results section of the original article. The correlation between circulating testosterone levels and body adiposity is negative (r 69 ¼ 20.54, p , 0.001), not positive as previously indicated. Similarly, the correlation between circulating testosterone levels and facial adiposity is negative (r 69 ¼ 20.52, p , 0.001), not positive as previously indicated. These results indicate that men with higher body and facial adiposity have lower testosterone levels, not higher testosterone levels as originally indicated.

Adiposity, compared with masculinity, serves as a more valid cue to immunocompetence in human mate choice.
According to the 'good genes' hypothesis, females choose males based on traits that indicate the male's genetic quality in terms of disease resistance. The 'immunocompetence handicap hypothesis' proposed that secondary sexual traits serve as indicators of male genetic quality, because they indicate that males can contend with the immunosuppressive effects of testosterone. Masculinity is commonl...

متن کاملMale facial masculinity influences attributions of personality and reproductive strategy
Facial masculinity may be used as a cue in female mate choice, as it reflects the success of the male genotype in its developmental environment. Women may maximize reproductive success by using a conditional strategy favoring highly masculine facial features for short-term relationships and feminized facial features in men for long-term relationships. Three studies examine reactions to masculin...
متن کاملDo men’s faces really signal heritable immunocompetence?
In the literature on human mate choice, masculine facial morphology is often proposed to be an intersexual signal of heritable immunocompetence, and hence an important component of men's attractiveness. This hypothesis has received considerable research attention, and is increasingly treated as plausible and well supported. In this article, we propose that the strength of the evidence for the i...
متن کاملDoes Masculinity Matter? The Contribution of Masculine Face Shape to Male Attractiveness in Humans
BACKGROUND In many animals, exaggerated sex-typical male traits are preferred by females, and may be a signal of both past and current disease resistance. The proposal that the same is true in humans--i.e., that masculine men are immunocompetent and attractive--underpins a large literature on facial masculinity preferences. Recently, theoretical models have suggested that current condition may ...
